The Great Circus Train Robbery:  A Northern Spy Club Mystery

The Book Cover

Zoe Elwood longs to be a lieutenant in the Northern Spy Club, in which she is the only girl.  To do this, she must solve a crime, according to her pesky older brother Kelby, who has declared himself Chief.  Her current mission is to spy on Juniper Boomer, a grumpy, reclusive man who rents a house nearby and who, Kelby says, has a "terrible secret."  When a red baggage car, and later a red advertising car disappear from her friend Spencer's antique circus train, Boomer is a prime suspect.  The dangerous quest takes Zoe and Spencer from Boomer's moldy basement to the Big Tent of the Quirkus Circus, where the young people have volunteered backstage to help a pair of wacky clowns.  Soon Hackbury, a paranoid clown who must be pushed back into the ring when he tries to exit out of 'stagefright,' vanishes altogether!  And Zoe recalls a tall stranger with a black mustache and black tie rising up out of the stands….
